- Research question is focused, feasible, and answerable.
- Approach (quantitative, qualitative, or mixed) matches the question.
- Literature review covers the key prior work and gaps.
- Sampling plan is defined, including who is included and why.
- Data collection instruments are drafted and pilot tested.
- Consent and privacy measures are in place before data collection.
- Data is stored securely and backed up in at least two places.
- Analysis plan is written before analysis begins.
- Citations are recorded as sources are read, not at the end.
- Draft is revised, and every claim traces back to data or sources.
Data Management Checklist
A short list of habits that keep research data usable and safe.
- Use a consistent file naming convention from the first day.
- Keep raw data separate from cleaned or derived files.
- Document every transformation in a dated log or script.
- Store participant identifiers separately from research data.
- Back up regularly to a second location.
- Record the version of any software used for analysis.
- Note any missing data and how it is handled.
- Before sharing, check whether data can be re-identified.
